Measuring
Funnels
See how many visitors complete a sequence of goals, and where they drop off.
A funnel is an ordered list of goals — for example visit /pricing → Signup → Purchase. PlainAnalytics shows how many visitors reached each step, how many dropped off between steps, and the overall conversion rate.
Create a funnel
- Make sure the goals you need exist (see Goals). You need at least two.
- Go to Site settings → Funnels → Add funnel.
- Give it a name and add between 2 and 8 steps, choosing a goal for each.
- Save. While editing you'll see an estimate of the funnel's conversion over the last 30 days.
Read a funnel
Open the Funnels tab at the bottom of your dashboard and pick a funnel. The chart shows visitors at each step, with the drop-off from the previous step highlighted. Below it, each step lists its visitors, its share of visitors who entered the funnel, and how many dropped off.
How steps are counted:
- Steps must be completed in order, within 24 hours of the first step.
- A visitor only counts at a step if they also completed every step before it.
- The funnel respects the dashboard's date range and filters, so you can compare funnels by source, country, device and so on.
Tips
- Start with a broad first step (a pageview goal for a key landing page) and finish with the conversion that matters.
- If a step loses most visitors, filter the dashboard by that step's goal to see what successful visitors had in common.
- Use the Show in dashboard toggle on the Funnels settings page to hide the report without deleting funnels.
