Migrate to PlainAnalytics
Switch from Plausible by changing one URL and importing your history, or move over from Google Analytics.
From Plausible
PlainAnalytics uses a Plausible-compatible tracking API: the window.plausible() function, plausible-event-* CSS classes, script options and the Events API all work the same way. In most cases you only change the script URL.
1. Add your site
Add the site in PlainAnalytics using the same domain, then open its installation page to get your snippet.
2. Swap the script
If you use a site-specific script (the newer snippet with plausible.init()), replace the script URL with your PlainAnalytics one:
<!-- before -->
<script async src="https://plausible.io/js/pa-XXXXXXXX.js"></script>
<!-- after -->
<script async src="https://plainwebanalytics.com/js/pa-YYYYYYYY.js"></script>
Keep the second <script> block as it is. Re-enable the same tracking options (outbound links, file downloads and so on) in Site settings → General.
If you use the older script.js with a data-domain attribute, change only the host — the same filename extensions are supported:
<script defer data-domain="example.com" src="https://plainwebanalytics.com/js/script.outbound-links.js"></script>
If you proxy the script through your own domain, point the proxy at https://plainwebanalytics.com/js/… and https://plainwebanalytics.com/api/event, or set data-api / the endpoint option.
3. Recreate goals and settings
Add your goals, funnels, custom properties and shields again in Site settings. Your existing plausible('Event') calls keep sending the same event names, so goals with the same names start converting straight away. You can also script this with the Sites API (PUT /api/v1/sites/goals).
4. Import your history
- In Plausible, open Site settings → Imports & exports and export your data. You'll receive a ZIP of CSV files.
- Unzip it. The files are named like
imported_visitors_20240101_20241231.csv. - In PlainAnalytics, open Site settings → Imports & exports → Import data and choose CSV. Upload all the CSV files together; the date range is detected from the file names.
Imported data appears on the same graphs and reports as data collected by PlainAnalytics, wherever the report is supported for imported data. Imports cover visitors, sources, UTM campaigns, pages, entry and exit pages, locations, devices, browsers, operating systems and custom events. A site can hold up to five imports; delete an old one to make room.
Tip: switch the script first, then export from Plausible after the switch, so the import and your new data meet without a gap. If the ranges overlap, choose an end date for the import in the upload form.
Integrations and the Stats API
Integrations that call the Plausible Stats API v1 (/api/v1/stats/…) or v2 (/api/v2/query) usually work by changing the base URL to https://plainwebanalytics.com and using a PlainAnalytics API key. See the Stats API.
From Google Analytics
Importing Google Analytics history isn't available yet. The simplest way to switch is:
- Install PlainAnalytics alongside your existing Google Analytics tag.
- Recreate your key conversions as goals — for example, a pageview goal for
/thank-youor a custom event fired from your sign-up form. - Run both for a few weeks. Expect PlainAnalytics to show different (often higher) numbers: it isn't blocked by cookie consent, and it counts visitors differently.
- Remove Google Analytics — and, if it was the only reason for it, your cookie banner.
