Getting started
Verify your installation
Check that the script is installed correctly, and fix the most common problems.
Check from the dashboard
After you've added the snippet, open your site's installation page and click Verify installation. PlainAnalytics fetches your homepage and checks four things:
- Your site is reachable from the internet.
- The PlainAnalytics script is on the page.
- The tracker is initialised — the
plausible.init()line is present. - Pageviews have arrived from your site.
The page keeps polling, so as soon as you load your site in another tab the first pageview should show up within a few seconds. You can also simply open your dashboard: once data arrives, it replaces the “waiting for first pageview” screen.
The homepage check only looks at the HTML your server returns. If you add the script with Google Tag Manager or JavaScript, steps 2 and 3 may fail even though tracking works — what matters is that pageviews arrive.
Check in your browser
- Open your site and your browser's developer tools.
- In the Network tab, filter for
event. - Reload the page. You should see a
POSTrequest tohttps://plainwebanalytics.com/api/eventwith status 202.
To see why an event was accepted or dropped, you can send a test event with the X-Debug-Request header — see the Events API.
Common problems
Nothing is sent from localhost. The script ignores localhost, 127.* and file: pages so development doesn't pollute your stats. Turn on Track localhost in the site's tracking options while testing.
You've excluded yourself. If you ran localStorage.plausible_ignore = "true" on your site, your own visits are ignored. Remove it with localStorage.removeItem('plausible_ignore').
An ad or content blocker is active. Some blockers block analytics scripts. Try a private window with extensions disabled.
Your Content Security Policy blocks it. Allow https://plainwebanalytics.com in both script-src (to load the script) and connect-src (to send events).
The domain doesn't match. Events are recorded for the domain configured in PlainAnalytics. If you changed your site's domain, update it in Site settings → General → Change domain.
Automated browsers. Visits from headless browsers and testing tools (those that set navigator.webdriver) are ignored by design.
